Unpacking
Let's Talk the Unpack -
You can request to have the movers unpack your boxes when delivered. This should be requested with your move coordinator as soon as you decide you want a full or partial unpack.
It is important to note the current language of the regulations state that an unpack is “upon request”. Requesting the unpack prior to the day of delivery means your TSP or local agent can ensure your delivery is properly staffed to handle the delivery and unpack.
Unpacking should be opening the boxes and doing a one-time placement of the items on the nearest flat surface such as a table, counter, or shelf. Once the clear flat surface runs out the unpack stops - which is why you need to be involved in the process.
Keep in mind that this is only unpacking boxes and not rearranging. If you want your books or Starbucks mugs in alphabetical order, you will need to do that yourself.
At no point should the crew be opening the boxes and dumping the contents. If that happens you should stop the crew and notify your move coordinator at your assigned TSP, or your local transportation office.
The crew will remove any empty boxes and paper on the day of delivery. They are not required to come back and pick up boxes or paper at a later time.
