Setting Up Your PPM
When you decide that you want to do a PPM, the first thing you need to do when you receive official orders is to set up your PPM on DPS. Yes, even you elect to move yourself you still have to set up the move and tell the military how you are planning to move. Once you set up your move on DPS, you will be provided with a PPM counseling and checklist to make sure you understand what your entitlements and responsibilities are.

Once your move is approved you then be able to begin booking your mode of movement and purchasing supplies!
Things to Know:

- You are not reimbursed $ per $ on your PPM. You are paid at 100% of the governments constructive cost on what they would pay a moving company to move you the same weight and distance in that market lane. Currently you can also receive other payments for fuel, bulky items, etc.
- When you set up your move as a PPM, you will be able to see the amount of your incentive payment. Keep in mind this amount is based on the estimated weight that you input, and your actual payment will be based on the actual weight you move.
- Your PPM pay is an incentive pay and is taxed at 22-25%. Any receipts, truck rental contracts or moving company contracts dated after your orders date could be an operating expense that will lower your taxable amount of your incentive pay.
Example: Your incentive pay is $1,000 and you have receipts showing $800 in expenses, then only $200 will be taxed. Without the receipts then the whole $1,000 would be taxed.
- You are required to provide empty and full tickets from a certified scale for your PPM.
- You are also only paid for the weight that you move up to your weight allotment. If your weight allotment is 10,000 and you only move 4,000 pounds then you are only paid for 4,000. Additionally if you move 15,000 pounds then you are only paid for the 10,000 pounds.
