Need to Know...

Most everything in this section is mentioned in another section of the "Let's Talk Series." However, these are some of the most commonly asked about and need reminding about topics.

Lets Talk - Need to Know:

There have been multiple questions posted recently about some topics and wanted to provide those answers here for those who still need the information:

- If you have a NTS shipment, anything in plastic totes will be removed and packed into cardboard boxes. It is a requirement of NTS shipments and in alignment with the storage ISO (International Organization for Standardization)

- For all other shipments- the moving company is liable for anything they take possession of regardless of who packs it. This has been a current regulation since 2019. Because of this, the company can repack anything they deem necessary. In this group we encourage “pre-packing” (like put your little things in ziplock bags) and not “packing”.

- NTS shipments have 75 days to file claims. Regular HHGs and UB shipments have 180 days. If you fill out the “loss/damage REPORT” for either type of shipment on DPS, then you have 9 months to file your claim.

TSPs have 60 days to respond to a claim (pay, deny or make an offer) and only 7 days for each rebuttal/counter.

- As for salvage and how long you have to keep broken items the Claim Liability Business Rules (located in the files of this group) state:

“The TSP must take possession of salvage items, at the customer’s residence, or other location acceptable to the customer, not later than 30 days from the TSP's notification from the repair firm that an item is beyond repair, or within 20 days of inspection (to include virtual), whichever occurs first.”

- PPMs are paid based on weight and distance that you move. They do need to be set up as a PPM on DPS if you want to be paid.

- You do need weight tickets for a PPM

- Inconvenience Claims- if your RDD is missed you may be eligible for an inconvenience claim. If you are offered a delivery date after your RDD and you turn it down and request a later date, then you may only be eligible for the inconvenience claim from the RDD to the offered date that you denied since the company was able to deliver.
