Liability

Let’s Talk Liability

Per the contract between the US Government and the TSP - Transportation Service Provider, there liability limits on each shipment.

Currently the TSP is liable for $6 per pound up to $75,000.

This means if your shipment is 10,000 pounds then the liability is capped at $60,000. On the other side if your shipment is 18,000 pounds then your shipment is at the max liability of $75,000.

This is why it is important for you to carry your own private renters insurance or other personal property policy. In the event that you hit your max liability, then you would file the rest with your private insurance. See the “Let’s Talk Insurance & Inventory” post for more information.

The TSP is liable for anything they take possession of regardless of who packs it. Because of this they also have the right to repack anything they deem necessary. Some companies will repack everything, some won’t. They do need to be able to open any packed boxes/bins to inspect the contents for the inventory. PBO- packed by owner should not be on the inventory.

Replace vs Repair

The TSP is the one who chooses if an item should be replaced or repaired.

If the company chooses Replacement, then it is YOUR choice on accepting the replacement value or having the company order and replace the item. Anything the company pays FRV for they have a right to salvage. So if it an item you want to keep regardless then they can offer you less then FRV to not salvage the item.

If the company chooses Repair, then it is YOUR choice to accept the repair value or have them coordinate the repair.
