DPS Emails
Let’s Talk DPS Emails with assigned TSP info

We get many questions on ”why are so many companies listed?” And “who is actually doing what?!”
Let’s break this down a bit-
There is a section in the email that states:
“Your outbound personal property shipment has been booked with the following Transportation Service Provider (TSP):”
Following that is a company name that has 4 letters in parentheses.
The part in parentheses is called a SCAC - Standard Carrier Alpha Code. Shipments are awarded out based on SCACs. These SCACs are affiliated with history in the DoD Program, ratings, rates, etc. Most companies own multiple SCACs and it is not uncommon in the moving industry for a company to buy and sell SCACs. It is also not uncommon for small companies with many SCACs to ask larger companies to manage SCACs on their behalf. Without asking the company directly, there isn’t a true way to know if the company owns the SCAC company listed in your email or if they are managing it.
Further down the email is a section that says “For Customer Service Contact”
This is often times a different company then what is listed with the SCAC. This is the company who is actually managing your move.
Your move coordinator will work here, all of your communication will be with that company.
Going down further you could potentially have another 1-2 companies listed. These are your local agents. You will have 1 assigned for origin to pack and possibly load and haul, and you will have 1 assigned for destination as the company to deliver.
But in everything- that company listed under ”For Customer Service Contact” is the company you communicate with and will be the one ultimately responsible for everything with your shipment from start to finish.
